December 1968 50 years of being awesome shirt and help with the cleanup. Witnessed houses that were buried in mud and many a great tree that crashed thru the adjoining house. Roads completely wiped out. Spent 6 months there working daily with an exception for rainy days. Never did clean it up all. I grew up in Chicago, far from hurricane country, and had no idea of their magnitude until I was in Washington DC during Hurricane Sandy. I had never heard such wind and seen horizontal rain before, and for hours on end. The sound of that wind alone was so frightening! One thing I would add! The Economical cost of Hurricanes has increased over the years only because we build more and more structures in common Hurricane Corridors!
