Maybe a few white moths survive, but over long periods of time the moth population on those black rocks shifts more and more toward dark colored moths. And if the environment changed, the creatures in it would ‘evolve.’ So millions of years ago much of the earth was swamp. And little swamp critters with padded little feet were around. When that swamp dried up, those critters slowly changed. Each generation, more of the ones with a little harder feet wound up being the ones that survived. And eventually we had horses.
